NYC Gay Bars (“the app”) is built so that your data stays on your device. We do not operate a server, and unless you turn on the optional Friends feature the app makes no network requests at runtime.
None, unless you turn on Friends. The app has no sign-up and no analytics, and we operate no server of our own. If you use the optional Friends feature, the small amount of data described in the “Friends” section below is stored in Apple iCloud (CloudKit) under your iCloud account.
Your check-ins, logged drinks, history, and earned badges are saved only in local storage on your device. This information never leaves your phone and is removed if you delete the app. The Friends feature never reads or shares your drink log or history.
If you grant location permission, the app uses your location only on your device to show your distance to bars and sort them by proximity. Your location is never transmitted off the device, never stored, and never shared. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings; the app still works without it.
Friends is off until you set it up, and it requires an iCloud account. If you turn it on, the following is stored in Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) — not on any server of ours:
You control sharing per friend: choose which friends receive your check-ins. Friend-request notifications are delivered by Apple's push service. Shared check-ins are visible to your selected friends for about 6 hours and automatically deleted within about 24 hours. Removing a friend stops any future check-ins from reaching them.
The app may open Instagram (via the Instagram app or website) when you tap a bar’s social link. Once you leave the app, the privacy policy of that service applies. We have no control over and take no responsibility for third-party services.
The app is intended for adults of legal drinking age and is not directed at children.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new “Last updated” date.
